What after-sales service does an aluminum alloy folding door company provide

Almost every supplier page ends with the same sentence: "We provide comprehensive after-sales service." It costs nothing to write and it tells a buyer almost nothing. A folding door is the most mechanically demanding product in a fenestration catalogue, and it is the one most likely to need attention after handover. So if you are qualifying an aluminum alloy folding door company, the after-sales package deserves as much scrutiny as the profile thickness or the glass build-up. The difference between a real service commitment and a marketing line is that a real one can be broken down into named deliverables.

Why a folding door asks more of after-sales service than any other door

A single sliding door has one moving sash riding on a pair of rollers. A folding door has several panels, and every panel carries its own set of pivots or rollers, its own hinge line, its own locking points, and its own length of gasket where it meets the neighbouring panel. On a wide opening the top track supports the entire weight of the assembly, and the whole stack has to stay in plane while the building around it moves, settles and expands through the seasons.

That has a practical consequence buyers rarely anticipate. After-sales service for a folding door is not mainly about replacing broken parts, because parts rarely break. It is about adjustment. A panel that has dropped two millimetres will still open, but it will start to rub on the threshold, the shoot bolts will stop lining up with their keeps, and the corner gaskets will no longer compress evenly. Nothing is "defective" in the warranty sense, yet the door no longer performs.

This is the test to apply to any supplier. A company that only promises to "send a replacement part if something breaks" is offering you the smaller half of what a folding door actually needs. What you need is documentation, adjustment guidance, and a route to a person who has seen that specific door before.

The eight deliverables a capable manufacturer should provide

Strip away the adjectives and after-sales service for folding doors comes down to eight things. A serious supplier can describe each of them in concrete terms; a weak one will answer all eight with the same sentence about customer satisfaction.

Deliverable What it should look like in writing Why it matters on a folding door
Component-level warranty Separate terms for profile and coating, hardware, seals and gaskets, and glass These four wear at completely different rates; a single blanket period hides which one is covered
Shop drawings and setting-out data Approved drawings before production, including panel layout, opening direction and tolerances Most folding door problems are dimensional, not material; the drawing is the reference for any later claim
Installation and commissioning documentation Written manual plus video, covering track levelling, hanging sequence and final adjustment A folding door is set up on site, not in the factory; the last hour of adjustment decides how it performs for years
Named spare parts list shipped with the order A small kit of the parts that actually wear: rollers, gasket length, a hinge set, lock keeps Removes the courier delay from the most common service event
A defined support channel with a response window Named contact, stated hours, stated turnaround for a first technical reply "24/7 support" with no named person is not an after-sales service, it is a slogan
A claims procedure What evidence is needed, how a claim is submitted, who pays freight, how long a decision takes Ambiguity here is where most disputes originate, especially across borders
Post-warranty parts supply Commitment to supply spares after the warranty period, at a stated pricing basis A folding door has a service life measured in decades; support that stops at year five is a design constraint
Order and drawing records retained Profile batch, hardware models and drawings kept on file against the order number The only way one replacement panel will ever match the others in colour and section

How to read a folding door warranty

Browse supplier listings and you will see warranty periods quoted anywhere from five years to twenty. That range is not evidence that some products last four times longer than others. It is evidence that the industry has no common definition of what is being warranted. A twenty-year term that covers only the aluminium section is weaker than a five-year term that covers the hardware as well, because the hardware is what will need attention first.

Ask which layer each number applies to, and ask what sits outside it. The exclusions matter more than the headline. Coastal salt exposure, aggressive cleaning agents, structural movement of the building, damage during third-party installation, and glass breakage after handover are the five that appear most often, and they are the five that decide most real disputes.

Then ask the question that buyers forget: who is actually on the other side of the claim? If you buy through a local distributor, the distributor is usually your counterparty, and their ability to honour a claim depends on their own relationship with the factory. If you buy factory-direct, you are dealing with the people who made the door, which is a genuine advantage for technical questions, but it also means you should agree in advance how a physical claim will be handled and who carries the freight.

Where a local supplier still holds the advantage

It is worth being honest about this. A local fabricator can often be on site the same day, in the same language, with a van full of the parts you need. They hold the local code documentation already, and they understand the way buildings are put together in your market. No factory on the other side of the world can match that on response speed, and any supplier claiming otherwise is not being straight with you.

What a direct manufacturer can match, and often beat, is traceability. When the system is a documented one rather than a one-off fabrication, a single panel can be reproduced years later from the original order file, in the same profile section and the same finish, with hardware that is still an identifiable catalogued product rather than whatever the workshop happened to stock that month. For a large opening where one damaged panel would otherwise mean replacing the whole run, that difference is worth a great deal more than a same-day visit.

Questions to put in your next RFQ

These seven questions take ten minutes to ask and will tell you more about a supplier's after-sales capability than any brochure. Send them with the enquiry, not after the order.

Question Answer you want Red flag
Can you send the warranty document itself? An actual document with component-level terms and exclusions A sentence in an email repeating the number on the website
Is the hardware a named brand with a model? Brand and model listed on the quotation, replaceable from standard stock "Our own hardware" or "German brand" with no name
What spare parts ship with the order? A listed kit of rollers, gasket, hinges and keeps "Spare parts available on request"
Who adjusts the door after installation, and is it included? A clear statement of who is responsible and what is included in the price Silence, because it was never considered
How is a claim submitted and how long does a decision take? Photos or video plus order number, with a stated decision window "We will deal with any problem quickly"
Will you keep my drawings and profile batch on file? Yes, against the order number, for the life of the product "Please keep your own drawings"
What is the response window across my time zone? Named contact, stated hours, stated first-reply turnaround "24/7" with no named person and no channel

Matching the service package to your project type

The right after-sales package is not the same for everyone. The table below is how we would rank priorities for three very different buyers.

Buyer What after-sales really means here Priority item
Homeowner or villa project One large opening, high visibility, no in-house maintenance team On-site adjustment after the first season, plus a spares kit held on site
Contractor or developer Many identical units, a punch list, and a handover date that cannot move Batch traceability, spares allowance per block, and a fast claims route
Distributor or project wholesaler You are the after-sales service for your own customers Wear-parts stocking, installer training, and documented technical files you can pass on

What ALPES can document, and what you should still confirm

We are not going to state a warranty figure in a blog post, because the number on a marketing page is not the thing that protects you. The warranty document is, and you should ask for it before you order rather than after something goes wrong. What we can state without qualification is the technical basis that any such document stands on.

Profiles are 6060-T66 aluminium at 1.8 mm to 2.5 mm wall thickness, with PA66GF25 polyamide thermal break strips. Those are material specifications, not slogans, and they are verifiable against the mill certificate and the profile drawing. Hardware comes from named partners: ROTO and Winkhaus from Germany, CMECH, and Wehag. Named hardware is the single most important thing a folding doors manufacturer can give you, because it means a worn roller or a tired lock is a catalogued part with a model number rather than an unidentifiable component no one can source five years later. CMECH handle sets used across the range are tested to 30,000 operating cycles.

Corrosion is the exclusion that catches most coastal projects, which is why the test data matters as much as the finish. The AW90 series is tested to 240 hours of salt spray resistance and 5,000 N shear strength. Those figures do not guarantee a warranty outcome on their own, but they tell you what the system was engineered and tested against, and they give you something concrete to discuss when you are specifying for a marine or high-humidity site.

Behind that sits capacity that makes long-term support realistic rather than aspirational: a 100,000 m2 production base across two centres in Foshan and Zhaoqing, Guangdong, and project experience in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, the wider Middle East and Australia. Two production centres and retained order files are what allow a single panel to be remade to match a folding sliding glass doors installation years after handover, instead of replacing an entire elevation.

The short version

After-sales service on a folding door is not a promise about the future. It is a set of documents, a set of parts, and a named person who can be reached. Ask for the component-level warranty, the spares list, the claims procedure, and the commitment to keep your drawings on file. Any supplier who can answer those four things specifically is worth shortlisting. Any supplier who answers all four with the same sentence is telling you what their after-sales service is worth before you have even placed the order.

If you are specifying a folding opening now and want the documentation before you commit, send the opening dimensions and site conditions through the ALPES contact page and ask for the warranty document and spares list alongside the quotation.
