Air and water control
Sliding systems rely on aligned tracks, seals, drainage channels, and correctly fabricated corners. Request the applicable air-infiltration, water-penetration, and structural test information for the proposed size and configuration. On exposed façades, coordinate sill drainage and exterior flashing so water leaving the frame is directed outside rather than trapped in the wall assembly.
Wind and operating loads
The project team should provide design pressures and relevant local requirements. The supplier can then check frame reinforcement, mullion selection, glass make-up, anchors, and hardware against the real opening. Larger glass does not merely add weight; it also changes the load carried by rollers and the effort needed to move the sash.
Safety, security, and glass selection
Identify hazardous locations, fall-protection needs, security expectations, and any impact requirements before selecting glass or locks. Tempered or laminated glass may be required depending on location and code. For a project that combines windows with an impact resistant swing door, keep the window and door schedules separate while coordinating finish, glass appearance, hardware, and documented performance across the package.
