When you order casement windows from a Chinese factory, the single most important line on the datasheet is the aluminum grade. It decides how strong the frame is, how well it resists wind and water, how long the finish lasts, and ultimately how much the window costs. It is also the specification where buyers get confused most often, and where some suppliers quietly cut corners. This guide explains what aluminum grades actually mean for casement windows made in China, which grade you should ask for, and how to check that you are getting exactly what you paid for.
An aluminum grade is a two-part label. The four-digit number, such as 6060 or 6063, names the alloy, which is the mix of aluminum, magnesium, silicon and other elements. The temper code after the dash, such as T5 or T66, describes how the extruded profile was heat-treated and aged. Together, these two parts set the profile's strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, and how precisely it can be formed into the complex hollow shapes that a modern casement window needs for its thermal break, drainage channels and hardware grooves.
Two windows can look identical from the outside yet perform completely differently underneath. The grade is the difference. That is why serious buyers never order casement windows by looks alone, and why reputable Chinese casement window suppliers publish the grade on every product page.
Across the Chinese window industry, two grades dominate the market.
6063-T5 is the industry default. It offers good extrudability, a smooth surface and solid corrosion resistance at a competitive price, which is why it is used in the vast majority of standard window profiles worldwide. For mild climates and budget-conscious projects, it is a perfectly reasonable choice.
6060-T66 is the premium choice for high-end system windows. The T66 temper is produced by solution heat treatment followed by artificial aging, a process that lifts yield and tensile strength well above T5 levels. This is the grade used in European-style precision profiles and thermally broken systems, where slim sightlines, deep multi-chamber sections and long-term structural stability are non-negotiable.

If you are building a villa, a high-rise apartment or a commercial project, the extra strength of 6060-T66 pays off in four concrete ways.
Wind load resistance. A stronger profile resists deformation under high wind pressure. When a frame stays straight, the gaskets stay compressed and the window keeps its air and water tightness for decades instead of loosening after a few seasons.
Precision extrusion. The 6060 alloy is designed for complex, multi-chambered cross-sections. That is what makes deep thermal break cavities, drainage channels and hardware slots possible without weakening the profile.
Corrosion resistance. The natural properties of the 6060 alloy hold up well in coastal and humid environments, which keeps the surface finish looking new and reduces long-term maintenance.
Stable performance. Because T66 profiles are heat-treated to a consistent state, batch after batch behaves the same way. That consistency matters when you are ordering hundreds of windows for one project.
A premium grade is only half the story. The wall thickness of the profile is the other half, and it is where suppliers most often cut corners. China's national standard GB/T 8478-2020 requires a minimum of 1.8 mm for the main load-bearing sections of exterior windows. Budget windows frequently fall below this, using 1.2 to 1.4 mm profiles that flex under load and leak over time.
High-end casement window factories go beyond the minimum. Thicker walls mean a stiffer frame, larger glass areas, and better resistance to wind pressure and deformation.
On a thermally broken casement window, the grade and the insulation strip work as one system. The strip is what stops heat from travelling straight through the aluminum frame. The material to look for is PA66GF25, a polyamide reinforced with glass fibre that expands and contracts at almost the same rate as aluminum, so the bond survives years of temperature swings.

Anyone can write "6060-T66" on a quotation. Here is how to confirm it is real.
Ask for material certificates. A genuine manufacturer can provide mill test certificates for the aluminum alloy and temper, plus certificates for the PA66 thermal break strip. If a supplier cannot produce them, treat the claim with suspicion.
Measure the wall thickness yourself. Use a caliper on the main load-bearing sections, the vertical stiles and horizontal rails of the sash. Do not measure the glazing bead or auxiliary sections, where some suppliers meet the spec but fall short where it counts.
Check the hardware brands. A premium profile is usually paired with premium hardware. Leading Chinese system window factories fit German hardware such as ROTO, Winkhaus and Wehag, or award-winning CMECH handles. Cheap hardware on a "premium" frame is a red flag.
Ask about testing. Salt spray corrosion tests, wind pressure tests and sealing system details tell you whether the factory actually validates performance or just prints numbers.
